Save the Cat!

I had this in my inbox late last week:

Chris Marsh, owner of the Mean Eyed Cat, has worked very hard to create a fabulous "Austin Landmark" style bar on West 5th Street. Many of you are quite familiar with it! Now, he is in jeopardy of losing it due to a zoning change. The Gables Condominiums were required (by vote of the neighborhood and the City) to leave his bar untouched during their new project. However, due to a zoning change, the bar is now in danger anyway. Chris has already meet with the City Council members and the Mayor. But he now needs 2000 votes by June 5, 2007 in order to successfully change the Zoning of his bar.

Well apparently, the owner of the Cat is reporting via the Mean Blog, that email is bogus, and inaccurately spells out impending doom. The owner explains the City of Austin and the Gables are working hard to ensure the Cat is preserved. The Cat is asking for a zoning change to be allowed to continue to sell alcohol- click here to sign the petition requesting the zoning change.

Check out more about the quirky dive bar here.
